”A plain map of Asia, according to the method of the Abbe Gaultier” Hand-coloured engraved map originates from a complete course of geography, by means of instructive games, invented by the Abbe Gaultier. Collated with the author’s last Paris edition, and digested for Europe conformably to the territorial arrangements of the Pacification of 1815, by Jehoshaphat Aspin. In three parts. The first part, containing the game of simple geography, for teaching the names and situations of the different countries and places of the Earth. The second part, containing a concise treatise on the artificial sphere. The third part, containing a geographical game, illustrative of ancient and modern history. Engraved by S. and R. Bentley, printed for John Harris and Son, corner of St. Paul’s Church-yard in London, 1821. Samuel Bentley (1785-1868) and Richard Bentley (1794-1871) were prominent figures in the London publishing world during the early 19th century. Samuel was known for his work as a printer, while Richard gained recognition as a publisher, founding the publishing house Richard Bentley &amp; Son. ”Ancienne Isle D'Hibernie” Hand-coloured Mallet's map of Ancient Ireland. Very decorative with galleons and cartouche with Neptune. This map originates from the German edition of Mallet's monumental work. The work was published in Frankfurt, 1686. Alain Mannesson Mallet (1630-1706) was a French mapmaker and engineer who served in the armies of Louis XIV. After rising through the ranks, Mallet was appointed as Inspector of Fortifications, a job which also required mathematical skills and which made him a competent military engineer. Eventually, he joined the court of Louis XIV at Versailles, where he taught math and focused on writing.Mallet is best known for his Description de L’Univers, first published in 1683, in five volumes. A wide-ranging geographical work, the Description included textual descriptions of the countries of the world, as well as maps of the celestial sky and the ancient and modern worlds. The Description continued to be published until the early eighteenth century. He also published a work in three volumes on warfare (1684) and a primer on geometry (1702). Zelande" This hand-coloured engraving is from ”Relation des Voyages entrepris par ordre de Sa Majesté Britannique” James Cook’s first voyage ”Relation des Voyages entrepris par ordre de Sa Majesté Britannique”. The work was published by Jean-Nicolas-Louis Hamelin in Paris from 1778-1785. James Cook's first voyage, from 1768 to 1771, aimed primarily to observe the transit of Venus and explore the Pacific. Departing from Plymouth, England, Cook sailed the HMS Endeavour, charting various islands and coasts, including Tahiti and New Zealand. His meticulous navigation and successful completion of scientific objectives laid the foundation for subsequent exploration in the Pacific region. Attractive large antique engraved map "Regni Bohemiae, Dvc. Silesiae, Marchionatvvm Moraviae et Lvsatiae" by Homann Heirs, originates from "Maior Atlas Scholasticus ex Triginta Sex Generalibus et Specialibus…". This book was Homann's second school atlas, published after his 1719 "Atlas Methodicus". While the "Atlas Methodicus" seemed to be intended for the younger school child with its system of blank maps and indexes, this "Atlas Scholasticus" was clearly intended for the more advanced student with its use of the same maps as appeared in Homann's various editions of his atlases. The Maluku Islands (also known as the Moluccas, Moluccan Islands and the Spice Islands) are an archipelago that is part of Indonesia, and part of the larger Maritime Southeast Asia region.
