This color lithograph depicts a Tawny Owl perched on a thick, cut tree branch, viewed in profile. The owl is rendered with detailed brown and white variegated plumage and large, dark eyes. The illustration was created for the major ornithological work Swedish Birds.
Wilhelm von Wright was a Finnish painter and ornithologist. He, along with his brothers Magnus and Ferdinand, illustrated some of the most detailed and significant collections of Nordic birds in the 19th century, contributing to the comprehensive scientific documentation of the region's fauna.
