"République Helvétique divisée en ses 22 Cantons". This geographical map depicts the Helvetic Republic, divided into its twenty-two administrative cantons. The engraving illustrates the complex topography of Switzerland, including the Alpine mountain ranges, major river systems like the Rhine and Rhône, and prominent lakes such as Lake Geneva and Lake Constance. The borders of the cantons are highlighted with original hand-colouring to provide visual clarity. This work was published in Paris by Felix Delamarche in 1826 as part of an educational atlas. It serves as a historical record of European political boundaries following the Restoration period and the expansion of the Swiss Confederation. Felix Delamarche was a French geographer and cartographer active during the first half of the nineteenth century. He was the son and successor of Charles-François Delamarche, one of the most influential French map publishers of the late eighteenth century. Felix continued the family tradition of producing high-quality globes, maps, and atlases that were widely used for both academic and general reference. His work is characterized by a commitment to updating geographical data while maintaining the elegant engraving style established by his father. "Afbeelding van de Stad Middelburg in Zeeland". This large-scale ichnographic plan provides a detailed birds-eye view of Middelburg, the capital of Zeeland, as it appeared at the end of the 17th century. The engraving meticulously delineates the city's complex star-shaped fortification system, featuring bastions, moats, and defensive walls. Within the perimeter, the urban fabric is shown with precision, including individual houses, gardens, churches, and the central circular abbey complex. The plan includes two detailed legends (Aanwysinge) providing a numerical key to important buildings, streets, and squares. This plan was originally surveyed by Cornelis Goliath and published in Smallegange’s Nieuwe Cronyk van Zeeland. Mattheus Smallegange was a Dutch historian, lawyer, and genealogist who dedicated much of his life to documenting the history and topography of the province of Zeeland. His magnum opus, the Nieuwe Cronyk van Zeeland, is considered one of the most important Dutch provincial chronicles ever produced. Smallegange spent decades gathering information, family records, and architectural details to ensure the work's accuracy. He collaborated with skilled engravers and utilized existing surveys by notable cartographers like Cornelis Goliath to create an unparalleled visual record of Zeeland's infrastructure. "Isles-Britanniques, Contenant les Royaumes d'Angleterre, d'Ecosse et d'Irlande". This geographical map delineates the kingdoms of England, Scotland, and Ireland during the late eighteenth century. The engraving illustrates the political boundaries, coastal topography, major river systems, and urban centers across the archipelago. The composition includes several distance scales and coordinates based on the meridians of Paris and Ferro. This work was published in Paris as part of the Atlas de toutes les parties connues du globe terrestre by the publisher Jean-Leonard Pellet in 1780. Rigobert Bonne was a French cartographer and mathematician who held the prestigious position of Royal Hydrographer at the Depot de la Marine. He was responsible for producing highly accurate maritime charts and terrestrial maps that served both scientific and military purposes. Bonne is recognized for his significant contributions to the encyclopedic projects of the Enlightenment, including his collaboration with Guillaume Raynal.
