9941 Johann Wilhelm Weinmann (1683–1741) - Snapdragon Varieties (Antirrhinum majus) - Hand-colored Engraving (Mid-18th Century)
This hand-colored engraving is a detailed botanical illustration featuring two varieties of the Snapdragon plant. The specimens are shown with tall, flowering stalks, one displaying pink and yellow blooms and the other white and yellow blooms, with their associated foliage. The plate originated from Weinmann's monumental botanical encyclopedia, Phytanthoza iconographia.
Johann Wilhelm Weinmann was an 18th-century German apothecary and botanist known for commissioning and financing the comprehensive botanical work, Phytanthoza iconographia. This illustrated encyclopedia documented thousands of plant species and is considered a significant contribution to 18th-century botanical literature.
