9896 Richard Polydore Nodder (Active 1790–1830s) - Striped Snoutfish - Hand-colored Engraving (1802)

This hand-colored engraving depicts a fish with a notably pointed snout. The specimen features dark vertical stripes across its body, a serrated dorsal fin, and a large black eyespot, or ocellus, near the caudal fin. The illustration is typical of ichthyological plates produced for British natural history works in the early 19th century.
Richard Polydore Nodder was a British natural history illustrator and engraver, following in the footsteps of his father, Frederick Polydore Nodder. He contributed numerous detailed zoological and botanical plates to significant scientific publications, notably collaborating on works such as The Naturalist's Miscellany.
