Johann Wilhelm Weinmann was a German apothecary and botanist who published the comprehensive botanical encyclopedia, Phytanthoza Iconographia (1737–1745). This work, known for its large format and detailed plates, was one of the first major botanical works to extensively use the mezzotint technique (though this plate is an engraving) and hand-coloring, making it a spectacular and important contribution to 18th-century botanical illustration.
