George Shaw was a prominent English naturalist, botanist, and zoologist of the late 18th and early 19th centuries. He was a Fellow of the Royal Society and a co-founder of the Linnean Society of London. Shaw's most significant contribution to natural history was his comprehensive work, General Zoology (1800–1826), for which he provided the text. His work was accompanied by detailed plates, often engraved by high-quality artists, to illustrate the various species he cataloged.
