43 Sebastian Münster (1488-1552) – Of Italy. True Portrait of the Mighty Castle in Milan – Woodcut (1550)

A dramatic, historical topographical woodcut providing a bird's-eye view of the Sforza Castle (Castello Sforzesco) in Milan, Italy. The fortress is depicted as a colossal, highly fortified structure with extensive double curtain walls, numerous defensive towers, and a surrounding moat. The central courtyard is visible, along with surrounding defensive works where skirmishes appear to be taking place.
Sebastian Münster was a German cartographer, cosmographer, and Hebrew scholar, widely considered one of the most influential German humanists of the 16th century. This encyclopedic volume aimed to provide a comprehensive description of the entire world, integrating geography, history, and natural history.
