Sebastian Münster was a German cartographer, cosmographer, and Hebrew scholar, widely considered one of the most influential German humanists of the 16th century. He served as a professor at the University of Basel and is best known for his monumental work, the Cosmographia (first published in 1544). This encyclopedic volume aimed to provide a comprehensive description of the entire world, integrating geography, history, and natural history. Published in many languages, the Cosmographia contained hundreds of maps, city views, and illustrations and was instrumental in the revival of geographical knowledge in Europe.
