His magnum opus, the Cosmographia universalis (first published 1544), was the earliest comprehensive German-language description of the world. It contained a vast collection of maps, city views, and illustrations that visually documented world geography, history, and ethnography, establishing a new standard for scholarly and accessible publications in 16th-century Europe.
