37 Sebastian Münster (1488–1552) – True Depiction of Gorée Island with its Fortification – Woodcut (Circa 1570)

Sebastian Münster was a pioneering German cartographer, cosmographer, and scholar of the Renaissance. His major work, the Cosmographia universalis (first published 1544), contained a vast collection of maps, city plans, and illustrations that visually documented world geography, history, and ethnography. It remained one of the most successful and influential geographical reference works in Europe for over a century.
