This detailed nautical chart illustrates Christmas Sound, a large inlet on the southwest coast of Terra del Fuego (Tierra del Fuego) in Chile/Argentina. The chart is presented in two sections, delineating the sound and naming geographical features, including Port Clerke, Dolphin Bay, and Pickersgill Cove, which commemorate members of the British expeditions. The map records the track of navigators searching the southern extremes of the continent for the elusive Terra Australis. This chart was published in the highly influential British publication, An Account of the Voyages, which compiled the official journals of Cook, Carteret, and others.
