11 Jacques-Nicolas Bellin (1703–1772) – Map of the Gambia River from its Mouth to Eropina – Copper Engraving (Circa 1747)

This detailed hydrographic map charts the navigable course of the Gambia River (Riviere de Gambra ou Gambie) from its mouth on the Atlantic coast inland to the settlement of Eropina. The map includes intricate details of the river's winding path, depth soundings, and key settlements and trading posts (comptoirs) along its banks, notably in the kingdoms of Barsalli and Barra. The map was based on the explorations of the British Captain John Leach in 1732 and was published by Bellin in the comprehensive geographical compilation, the Histoire Générale des Voyages, highlighting the river's importance to West African trade.
