"Nymphaea versicolor" This plate illustrates a striking water lily with numerous pale pink and white pointed petals and a prominent yellow center, shown alongside a large green lily pad and a secondary budding flower. The technical nature is a hand-coloured etching. It was published in the Botanical Magazine, which was printed in London by T. Curtis at St. Geo. Crescent. This periodical is one of the most famous and longest-running botanical publications in history, established to provide a visual record of exotic and ornamental plants cultivated in English gardens during the late Georgian era.

William Curtis was an English botanist and entomologist who served as the demonstrator of plants at the Chelsea Physic Garden and founded the London Botanic Garden. His primary contribution was the establishment of the Botanical Magazine in 1787, which combined high-quality hand-coloured plates with detailed scientific descriptions. He worked with talented artists like Sydenham Edwards to ensure the highest degree of accuracy and beauty in his publications. Curtis's work was instrumental in documenting the massive influx of plant species into Britain during the peak of global botanical exploration.
