This engraving presents an elevated, bird's-eye view of the seigniory of Nieuwland (New Land) on the island of Walcheren, Netherlands (Zeeland). The composition is dominated by the reclaimed polder landscape, featuring a complex system of canals, geometrically planted orchards, and farmlands. In the foreground, ships are shown navigating a waterway connected to the main land, emphasizing the maritime and agricultural significance of the area. Above the central scene, a decorative cartouche contains a small map of the area and is flanked by two coats of arms: the one on the left for Nieuwland and the one on the right for Catharina Verbrugge, the owner of the seigniory at the time. This print was commissioned for the influential historical work, Nieuwe Cronyk van Zeeland.
