"Sicut Sponsa ad virum" This work provides a complex theological allegory representing the Christian Church as the Bride of Christ, featuring Christ standing beneath a tree and presenting a crown of flowers to a kneeling figure. The engraving was published in Antwerp, a major center for the production of devotional prints during the Counter-Reformation. This plate is distinguished by the inclusion of biblical figures such as Moses with the tablets of the law, symbolizing the transition from the Old to the New Testament.

Johann Sadeler I was a highly influential Flemish engraver and a member of a famous family of printmakers who helped disseminate the Flemish artistic style across Europe. He served as an engraver to the Duke of Bavaria and later worked in Italy, where he established important printmaking centers. His work is noted for its technical precision and its ability to capture the complex Mannerist compositions of painters like Marten de Vos. His extensive output contributed significantly to the development of religious and allegorical printmaking during the late 16th century.
