12498 Pierre-François Tardieu (1711–1771) – Map of European Russia, Poland, Sweden, Norway, and Denmark – Northern and Eastern Europe – Etching (1823)

"Carte de la Russie d'Europe Comprenant la Pologne, la Suède, la Norvège et le Danemark." This hand-coloured etching presents the expansive geography of Northern and Eastern Europe during the early nineteenth century. The map encompasses the vast territories of the Russian Empire from the Arctic Ocean to the Black Sea, including the partitions of Poland and the Scandinavian kingdoms. Hand-applied colour outlines define the international borders and administrative provinces of the Russian interior. The composition features detailed coastal charts of the Baltic and Caspian Seas, along with the mountain ranges of the Urals and the Caucasus. This edition was published in Paris by Jean-Baptiste Delaval in 1823, utilizing the specialized geographical engravings of the Tardieu family.
