"Pl. XXXVII". This lithograph displays a comprehensive array of twenty-one scientific illustrations featuring various fossilized ammonite specimens. The figures showcase a diverse range of morphological characteristics, including varying degrees of shell coiling, distinct ribbing patterns, and cross-sectional views of the internal chambers. The plate utilizes the high-resolution heliogravure process to provide the necessary detail for taxonomic comparison and stratigraphic identification. This work comes from the specialized treatise Recherches sur la craie supérieure, published by the Imprimerie Nationale in Paris in 1894.

Albert de Grossouvre was a French geologist and engineer who made fundamental contributions to the stratigraphy of the Cretaceous period. He served as an engineer for the Corps des Mines and devoted much of his career to the mapping and classification of geological layers in France. His meticulous research on ammonites allowed for more precise dating of rock formations and remains a cornerstone of European paleontology. Grossouvre was recognized for his ability to combine field observations with rigorous taxonomic descriptions in his scientific publications.
