"Orbis Antiquus". This historical map reconstructs the world as it was known to the civilizations of classical antiquity. The engraving covers Europe, North Africa, and Asia, using Latin nomenclature to identify ancient regions such as Scythia, Sarmatia, Mesopotamia, and Libya. The coastal outlines of the Mediterranean and Indian Oceans reflect 18th-century cartographic knowledge while adhering to the geographic scope of the ancient Greek and Roman world. The composition includes a series of specialized scale bars in the upper right corner, including Olympic stadia and Roman miles. This work was published in Paris as part of the Atlas de toutes les parties connues du globe terrestre by the publisher Jean-Leonard Pellet in 1780.

Rigobert Bonne was a French cartographer and mathematician who held the prestigious position of Royal Hydrographer at the Depot de la Marine.
