"Gioseppe Antonio Canaceo". This work features an allegorical emblem set within a classical architectural frame supported by fluted columns. The central motif depicts a lion being restrained by a bridle and bit, accompanied by a flowing scroll with the Latin motto "Dies et Ingenium" (Time and Talent/Nature). Standing to the left is a figure resembling Apollo or a solar deity, while to the right stands a satyr or Pan-like figure. The lower section includes a coat of arms. The Italian text below explains the "Impresa del Leone" (Emblem of the Lion), citing a famous verse by the poet Catullus to illustrate how time and intellect can tame even the fiercest of natures. This plate was published in Venice as part of the work Le Imprese Illustri con Esposizioni et Discorsi.

Girolamo Ruscelli was an Italian humanist, writer, and cartographer who was a central figure in the intellectual circles of mid-sixteenth-century Venice. He is best known for his expanded editions of Ptolemy's Geography and his extensive work on emblems and devices for the Italian nobility. Ruscelli was a founding member of several literary academies and contributed significantly to the standardization of the Italian language and the study of heraldry. His publications on emblems were instrumental in codifying the symbolic language used by the elite to communicate personal values, lineage, and political allegiances during the late Renaissance.
