12147 James Sowerby (1757–1822) – Botanical Study of the Turkey Oak – Hand-coloured engraving (1804)
"Quercus Cerris" presents a detailed botanical study of the Turkey oak. The composition features a central woody branch bearing several lobed green leaves and a cluster of three developing acorns with their characteristic mossy or bristly cups. Below the primary branch, the work illustrates the pendulous male catkins and smaller cross-sections of the floral and seed structures.
