10368 Pieter Willem Marinus Trap (1852–1905) – Ethnographic Weapons of the Malay Archipelago – Illustration (1891)

This illustration depicts a comprehensive study of traditional bladed weapons and scabbards from the Malay Archipelago. The composition features various forms of the kris, klewang, and parang, alongside curved daggers and a prominent long-handled sword at the top. The rendering highlights the intricate craftsmanship of the hilts, which are carved from wood, bone, and horn, as well as the decorative metalwork of the crossguards and the distinct grain patterns of the blades. Several weapons are shown paired with their corresponding wooden or leather scabbards, providing a detailed record of the martial and ceremonial equipment used by Indigenous cultures across the Southeast Asian islands. This work was published as a technical plate for a scholarly ethnographic journal to document the material culture and regional variations of traditional weaponry.
