This copper engraving is a topographical illustration presented in two registers, depicting the coastline near Rio San Ander (or St. Andrew). The view details the geographical features of the river entrance and the North-North East Cape. The central register focuses on Fort St. Antoine at Anxial, documenting the fortifications and coastal layout of the area. The engraving was published in the Histoire générale des voyages to visually document European exploration and colonial outposts.

Abbé Prévost (Antoine François Prévost d'Exiles) was a French novelist, historian, and cleric of the 18th century, best known for his novel Manon Lescaut. Crucially for this work, he was the primary editor and compiler of the multi-volume Histoire générale des voyages, a monumental compendium that synthesized and documented the accounts of European exploration and geographical knowledge from around the globe.
