Jean Piron was a French painter who served as an artist on the D'Entrecasteaux expedition, an 18th-century voyage of discovery that charted coastlines and documented natural history in the South Pacific and Australia. His on-site sketches formed the basis for many published engravings in the subsequent official expedition accounts.
