This hand-colored engraving is a large folio map detailing the continents of North and South America. The map shows the continents extending from the Arctic to Cape Horn, complete with political boundaries, rivers, mountain ranges, and a projection grid indicating latitude and longitude. The map originated from a historically significant German atlas.

Adolf Stieler was a highly influential German cartographer whose work defined 19th-century German mapmaking. He is renowned for creating Stielers Handatlas, which was one of the most comprehensive and technologically advanced world atlases of the era.
