This hand-colored copperplate engraving presents a dramatic botanical study of the Asiatic Crinum Lily, a large bulbous plant known for its striking inflorescence. William Curtis was an eminent English botanist, entomologist, and publisher of the 18th Century. He is celebrated for founding two of the most significant botanical publications of the time: the magnificent folio Flora Londinensis and the long-running Curtis's Botanical Magazine. Curtis was dedicated to popularizing botany and established a well-known botanical garden in London for public instruction.
