This leaf is from "Das Dritte Buch" (The Third Book) of a 16th-century edition of the Cosmographia. It features three woodcut illustrations set within German Fraktur text. The main illustration is a topographical bird's-eye view of the fortified German city of Oettingen. Below this are two smaller woodcuts depicting local figures, including a priest, as described in the accompanying text.Sebastian Münster was a German cartographer, cosmographer, and scholar. He is best known as the primary author and editor of the Cosmographia, one of the most influential and commercially successful books of the 16th century. First published in 1544, this work provided a comprehensive description of the known world and was renowned for its extensive use of woodcut illustrations, including numerous city views and maps.
