9045 Bernard de Montfaucon (1655–1741) – Mausoleum of Hadrian and Pont Sant’ Angelo (Rome, Italy) – Engraving (1704)

Bernard de Montfaucon was an influential French Benedictine monk, philologist, and a founding figure of modern paleography and classical archaeology. His most significant work is the massive, ten-volume illustrated encyclopedia, "L'Antiquité expliquée et representée en figures," which systematically documented the artifacts, monuments, and architecture of the ancient world.
