This print illustrates several ancient ceramic or metal vases and vessels from classical antiquity. The main subjects include a large, highly polished, two-handled amphora, a smaller patterned urn-like vessel, and two small, squat containers. These artifacts are presented as archaeological studies and are labeled Begor and Baluz to denote their collections or sources. The engraving was produced as a plate for Bernard de Montfaucon’s authoritative ten-volume work, "L'Antiquité expliquée et representée en figures."

Bernard de Montfaucon was an influential French Benedictine scholar, philologist, and pioneer of the disciplines of classical archaeology and paleography. His enduring legacy rests primarily on "L'Antiquité expliquée," a monumental, systematically organized, and profusely illustrated catalogue of artifacts, monuments, and documents that served as the definitive visual reference for the study of ancient cultures for over a century.
