Barthélémy Lauvergne was a French landscape and marine painter who served as one of the official artists on the circumnavigation commanded by Auguste-Nicolas Vaillant (1836–1837). His drawings and watercolors from these voyages provided invaluable visual documentation of ports, cities, and coastal landscapes across the globe, capturing scenes like the bustling, restricted trading zones of Canton.
