Auguste-Nicolas Vaillant was a French naval officer and explorer who rose to the rank of Admiral. He is best known for commanding the French circumnavigation voyage aboard La Bonite (1836–1837). The official published account of this voyage, Voyage autour du monde sur la corvette La Bonite, provided important scientific and ethnographic observations, featuring high-quality engravings based on the expedition's drawings, which documented global ports and landscapes.
