François-Nicolas Martinet was a highly prolific French natural history artist and engraver, best known for his immense contribution to the plates illustrating the natural history works of the time, most notably the ornithological section of the Comte de Buffon's Histoire Naturelle. His work is prized for its scientific accuracy, clarity, and the beautiful hand-coloring used to define the species.
