204 Julius Mendes Price (1857–1924) – An Artist's Model (Poster Miniature) – Lithograph (Circa 1896)
This colorful lithographic print from the iconic French portfolio Les Maîtres de l'Affiche (The Masters of the Poster), published by Imprimerie Chaix in Paris. The image is a miniature reproduction of the poster advertising the musical An Artist's Model at Daly's Theatre, London. The design features a stylized woman carrying a large black artist's palette that obscures her body, capturing the risqué themes of the musical. The work, originally printed by Imprimerie Paul Dupont, is a superb example of the theatrical poster art of the Belle Époque.
Julius Mendes Price was a British war correspondent, painter, and illustrator, known for his work in graphic reporting and his contributions to the Art Nouveau poster movement. He created this highly stylized design, which was selected for inclusion in the exclusive Les Maîtres de l'Affiche series, acknowledging his status as a major figure in international poster art.
