The print features Rosersberg Castle, located near Stockholm, one of the royal palaces of Sweden known for its 17th-century architecture and use as a royal residence into the 19th century. The work aimed to preserve visual records of Sweden’s historical landmarks and was among the most significant topographical publications of its time.
Ulrik Thersner (1779–1828) was a Swedish military officer and artist celebrated for initiating this comprehensive project. He began his naval career at the age of seven during Gustav III’s Russian War and rose through the ranks to become a major in the Surveying Brigade. His service included hydrographic surveys and active participation in the Finnish and Norwegian campaigns, establishing him as a key figure in both military and cartographic circles.
