"Amerique Meridionale" This work provides a detailed geographical overview of the South American continent during the late 18th century, illustrating colonial territories including Brazil, Paraguay, and Peru, as well as the interior regions of the Amazon. The engraving was published in Paris as part of the Atlas de toutes les parties connues du globe terrestre by Rigobert Bonne. His work is noted for accurate coastal delineations and the systematic representation of river systems and mountain ranges based on contemporary maritime and terrestrial data.
Rigobert Bonne was a significant French cartographer of the Enlightenment who served as the Royal Cartographer to the French Hydrographic Office of the Navy. He was known for moving away from the decorative flourishes of the previous century in favor of scientific accuracy and clear, functional detail. His maps were highly regarded for their precision in coastal delineations and river systems. His extensive body of work became a standard for naval navigation and geographical study during the late 18th century.
