"Monsignor Francesco Maccasciola". This work features a central allegorical emblem set within an elaborate Mannerist cartouche. The primary motif depicts a pine tree (l'arbor del pino) with a scroll entwined around its trunk, positioned above a small coat of arms. The surrounding decorative frame is composed of varied ornamentation, including satyr-like figures, cornucopias, and architectural elements supported by pedestals. The Italian text below discusses the historical and poetic significance of the pine tree, referencing Ovid's Metamorphoses and Virgil to emphasize its use in shipbuilding and its transition from wild mountains to cultivated gardens. This engraving was published in Venice as part of the seminal collection Le Imprese Illustri con Esposizioni et Discorsi.

Girolamo Ruscelli was an Italian humanist, writer, and cartographer who was a central figure in the intellectual circles of mid-sixteenth-century Venice. He is best known for his expanded editions of Ptolemy's Geography and his extensive work on emblems and devices for the Italian nobility. Ruscelli was a founding member of several literary academies and contributed significantly to the standardization of the Italian language and the study of heraldry. His publications on emblems were instrumental in codifying the symbolic language used by the elite to communicate personal values, lineage, and political allegiances during the late Renaissance.
