"Con Queste." This engraving presents two allegorical emblems arranged vertically on a single page. The upper emblem depicts a hand emerging from a decorative cartouche, wielding a sword to strike a multi-headed hydra, symbolizing the struggle against complex or persistent vices. The lower emblem features Cupid, the god of love, standing within an oval frame, holding a bow and a palm branch. This figure is surrounded by an elaborate Renaissance strapwork border supported by two sea monsters or dolphins. The Latin motto "Con Queste" (With These) connects the two images, suggesting that the virtues represented by Cupid’s attributes are the tools necessary to overcome the challenges symbolized by the hydra. This work was published in Venice as part of Le Imprese Illustri, a prestigious collection of symbolic devices belonging to the European intellectual and political elite.
