"Gesneriaceae L. Rich." This hand-coloured engraving presents an extensive botanical study of the Gesneriaceae family, characterized by its diverse flowering plants often found in tropical regions. The central illustration depicts a primary stem with large, ovate, serrated leaves and clusters of tubular, bell-shaped flowers. Surrounding this central figure is a complex arrangement of botanical dissections, including cross-sections of ovaries, seed structures, and detailed renderings of reproductive organs. Several elements are highlighted with vibrant hand-colouring, notably a brilliant red tubular blossom and various green and crimson floral components, providing clarity to the plant's morphology. This work was published in Erlangen as part of the Iconographia Familiarum Naturalium Regni Vegetabilis. The plate serves as a precise scientific record of mid-nineteenth-century botanical classification, documenting the unique anatomical features of this plant family.
