This hand-colored copperplate engraving is a large double-folio map depicting Germany. The map features extensive detail of the region's geography and is adorned with a decorative cartouche displaying the title, scale, and allegorical figures. The work includes nautical elements such as ships and a compass rose over the adjacent sea.

Johannes Janssonius was a highly influential Dutch cartographer, engraver, and publisher who worked in Amsterdam during the 17th century. He is best known for publishing his expanded edition of the Mercator-Hondius atlas, eventually titled the Atlas Novus, which rivaled the production of his contemporary, Joan Blaeu.
