This highly ornamental botanical illustration, designated as Plate 5702, depicts a flowering shrub, likely a Syzygium or related myrtle species. The focus is on the spectacular flower, composed of a dense mass of long, radiating pink and yellow stamens, clustered against the glossy, dark green leaves. The print includes supplementary line engravings detailing the floral structure. This illustration was featured in Curtis's Botanical Magazine, produced during the mid-Victorian era, when the publication focused heavily on showcasing colorful and exotic plants introduced to the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew from around the British Empire.

William Curtis was an English apothecary and botanist who founded The Botanical Magazine in 1787. Initially a demonstrator of plants at the Chelsea Physic Garden, Curtis established the magazine as an accessible and affordable vehicle for introducing exotic and ornamental plants to gardeners and botanists. Though Curtis himself died relatively early, the publication continued under a succession of influential editors and renowned illustrators, growing in scientific authority through its close affiliation with Kew. It remains the longest continuously published and most authoritative botanical serial in history.
