101 Jacques Grasset de Saint-Sauveur (1757–1810) – Chinese Peasant and Peasant Woman (Paysan et Paysanne Chinois) – Hand-coloured Engraving (Circa 1796)

Jacques Grasset de Saint-Sauveur was a French writer, diplomat, and ethnographic compiler of the Enlightenment period. He is best known for devising and publishing the Encyclopédie des voyages, a monumental work that featured hundreds of plates illustrating the world’s inhabitants. Through this project, Grasset directed the production of thousands of visual records, aiming to create a systematic and comprehensive visual record of human cultures.
