11356 Robert Bénard (1734–1777) – Technical Study of a Carillon Clock Mechanism – Engraving (18th Century)

"Horlogerie, Vue perspective d'un Carillon" depicts a complex mechanical assembly for a musical carillon, featuring a large pinned cylinder or drum designed to trigger a sequence of bells. The work illustrates the internal drive system with its heavy gears, pulleys, and a vertical series of tuned bells mounted on a central axis, rendered with exacting technical precision and fine hatching. This copper engraving was produced for the Recueil de Planches of the Encyclopedie, ou Dictionnaire raisonne des sciences, des arts et des metiers, the monumental Enlightenment project edited by Denis Diderot and Jean le Rond d'Alembert in Paris.
